Actors can make money doing medical simulations by working as standardized patients. Standardized patients are actors who portray patients with specific medical conditions or symptoms to help train healthcare professionals. They participate in medical exams, simulations, and role-playing scenarios. This allows healthcare professionals to practice their skills and improve their communication with patients. Standardized patients are usually paid for their time and expertise.

How to sign up

To get signed up for medical simulations as an actor, you can follow these steps:

1. Research local medical schools, nursing programs, and healthcare institutions in your area. They often have simulation centers or training programs that utilize standardized patients. I was approved to do this work

At UC Davis.

2. Contact these institutions and inquire about their standardized patient programs. Ask if they are currently hiring or accepting applications.

3. Prepare a professional acting resume and headshot. Highlight any relevant acting experience or training that would make you a good fit for medical simulations.

4. Attend auditions or casting calls specifically for standardized patients. These may be held by the institutions themselves or by casting agencies that specialize in medical simulations.

5. If selected, undergo any necessary training or orientation provided by the institution. This may include learning about specific medical conditions, practicing patient scenarios, and understanding the expectations and guidelines for portraying patients realistically.

6. Once you are part of a standardized patient program, be reliable, punctual, and professional in your work. Follow instructions from the healthcare professionals and provide constructive feedback to help them improve their skills.

Remember, opportunities for medical simulations may vary depending on your location and the demand for standardized patients. It's important to stay proactive and network within the healthcare and acting communities to increase your chances of finding these opportunities.
